Background Patterns This folder contains several image files that can be used as background patterns for your Web pages. For an example, open "test.htm" in a Web browser. This test page uses the file "drops.jpg" as a background. You can use any small graphic (GIF or JPG file) as a background pattern for a page: 1. Copy the background graphic into the folder containing the HTML files. 2. Replace the tag at the top of each HTML file with: where "xxxx.gif" (or "xxxx.jpg") is the name of a graphic file in gif (or jpg) format that is to be used as the background pattern. The graphic will be "tiled" to fill the page. Please do not over-use background patterns - they take time to download and typically do not add anything to the content of your page. Take care that the background pattern is not so strong as to be distracting and that the text color stands out well enough to be easily read. Use a graphic utility program to adjust the brightness and reduce the contrast of your image until it makes a suitable background for text.
