Making Pottery by the Coil Method, by Katherine

This stamp shows pieces of pottery made by the Southwest Indians. The pottery was a mixture of clay and sand. Then this mixture was made into long, thin, snake-like strips and coiled around a base layer. The paint to decorate the pottery came from berry juices and ground minerals or stones. Their brushes were made of yucca leaves. A yucca plant grows widely over the southwest.
