Pacific Coast Wood-Carvers, by Brad

This stamp commemerates the Pacific Coast Indian's great wood-carving. The Pacific Coast Indians carved beautiful canoes from the trunks of Cedar and Redwood trees. They had many designs on the canoes. They also carved unbelievable totem poles. Those totem poles had animals, people, and birds carved into them. They either told a family's history or a make-believe story. The Pacific Coast Indians even carved wooden hand rattles, hammers, spears, spoons, masks and other things.
