George Herman (Babe) Ruth was born on February 6, 1895 in
Baltimore, Maryland. He was famous because he hit lots of home runs.
He was also a famous pitcher. Babe started his career with the
Baltimore Orioles Minor League. When he got better he was drafted
to the Cleveland Indians Major League. In 1919 he was traded to
the New York Yankees. With Babe's help the Yankees won 7
World Championships between 1920 and 1933. On June 2, 1935,
at the age of 40, Babe Ruth retired.. He contracted throat
cancer and died on August 16, 1948.
