Answer for Problem 4

Gun primer contains lead (Pb), barium (Ba), and antimony (Sb). Suitable analytical methods include emission spectroscopy, atomic absorption, ICP/MS, and neutron activation analysis. Scanning electron microscopy may also be used for residue detection.

Heavy metal analysis is preferred to nitrate analysis because Pb, Ba,and Sb are encountered less frequently than is the nitrate ion, so the results are more conclusive.
