On August 25, 2023, the Science and Global Change (SGC) branch of College Parks Scholars went on an excursion to Kenilworth Park Aquatic Gardens. Kenilworth is a National Park that gains attraction from its beautiful gardens full of lilies, lotuses, and much more. On this trip we participated in two activites including weeding the exterior area of the gardens and weeding the gardens themselves. Throughout this process, we learned about the different species in this area and were able to connect them to our Scholar's topic of Science and Global Change. We were informed that due to rising temperatures, invasive species are appearing in our area that are normally found in the southern regions of our country. Obtaining this information through a hands on experience was one that I will never forget as it helped introduce me to the objective of SGC. This activity was also very exciting and enjoyable because I was able to meet new people while knowing we were making a contribution to our community.
