My name is Rony Garcia-Vivas and I am a 2nd year student at the University of Maryland majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. A little about me, I am a friendly person and easy to get along with. I enjoy watching and playing all sports from football to soccer to volleyball. I also enjoy family time, especially traveling to Guatemala to see my grandparents and extended family.
Being in Scholars has been a huge privilege and I want to get the best out of it. My main goal is to get involved in more service activities and bring more awareness to the Scholars program. During my Sophomore year I became a Scholars Peer Mentor with the hopes of helping incoming freshman get adjusted to college life. I decided on Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering as my major because it involved two ideas that I am passionate about, Chemistry and Problem Solving. With this, I want to learn how these two coincide in a field where there are so many problems to be solved, such as in the field of pharmaceuticals. As for the University of Maryland as a whole, my biggest goal is to be involved in research and hopefully be published someday. I want to be able to contribute to something that will help others and make life better for others.
