Due Date: May 11, 2023
Freshman year in college is a unique experience every student get’s to experience only once. Especially the unique classes you will get to take. A health class I had to take really shocked me and changed my perspective on how I view my body and mind. I didn’t realize in health that there were many theories that explained how a person makes decisions and what motivates them to do specific actions. When I learned about these theories it allowed me to be more aware of myself and the actions I take and I was able to implement different lifestyle changes that not only benefited me physically but mentally and emotionally as well. Developing relationships with faculty members is much more difficult than in high school since there are so many students and sometimes the student-to-teacher ratio is 200 to 1, so this cant definitely makes it a challenge. I would recommend to new students to not be shy and just introduce yourself if you do this a couple of times professors are more likely to remember you. Another great way is to go to office hours whether you have a question or just want to drop by and say hi make use of them! Adjusting to university can be hard at some times especially if it's your first year. However, if you surround yourself with healthy and beneficial relationships college can become a lot less overwhelming. I created many new friends in my classes and this helped me in college especially if I was struggling with an assignment or just had general questions. In college, it's important to surround yourself with people you trust so that you can have to best experience. College academic life is much different than high school. It's more independent and you’re in charge of how you learn. You have to be responsible and hold yourself accountable for studying and reviewing for tests as well as completing assignments & projects. College tests are much harder than high school so it’s important to keep on top of your classes and constantly review lectures especially if you aren't quite grasping the material. College is a new lifestyle in a way but if you make the right choices suited for you then it’s an amazing experience. Life in college is different than being a student in high school. So it's okay if it takes time to adjust to things. It takes a while for everyone to find their own rhythm so don't stress if you didn't find yours in the first month. College is a drastic change and it's a life altering experience so make the best use of it!
