Project 1
3 Compositions

Create 3 compositions using images of scanned 3D objects

Using a flat bed scanner scan 3D objects and use the resulting images as composite material for your compositions.  Create a total of five compositions.  For each composition use a minimum of five scans.  More than five scans highly recommended.  To do the entire project you will need a minimum of 15 scans.  (Please note: do not scan flat surfaces and do not scan objects that may scratch or damage the glass surface of the scan bed).  Use the scanner as a creative tool to capture images.  It is a good idea to scan a wide range of objects for each composition.

Do not use the scans simply to “cut and paste” Use them creatively in your compositions.  Think of them as raw material for the compositions.  Manipulate the scans and create unique compositions using various capabilities in Photoshop.  You can select any subject(s) for your compositions.  Manipulate the scans and the compositions you create to demonstrate the skills with PhotoShop and create interesting compositions.

Technical requirements:

Final compositions 72 Pixels/inch – print on good quality paper such as photo quality or glossy paper.  Image should occupy more than ¾ of the 8.5 x 11 paper.
Hand the compositions in separate plastic sleeves with the thumbnail sheets of the scans used in each composition.  You can put the thumbnail sheet in the back of each composition in the same plastic sleeve with the composition.

Be prepared to show your work in class during scheduled critiques.  You do not need to have them printed for the critiques.
