Grading Policies

Your course grade will be based on the sum of

your three in-class exam scores (maximum of 100 points each)
your Final Exam score (maximum of 200 points)
your five best Matlab project scores (maximum 20 of points each)
your ten best quiz scores (maximum of 10 points each)

--- 300 points (about 42.857%),
--- 200 points (about 28.571%),
--- 100 points (about 14.286%),
--- 100 points (about 14.286%).

The maximum total score possible for the course is 700 points. The point cutoffs for course grades
will be no higher (and might be a bit lower) than those set forth in the following table:

679 points (97%) for a grade of A+		539 points (77%) for a grade of C+
651 points (93%) for a grade of A		511 points (73%) for a grade of C
630 points (90%) for a grade of A-		490 points (70%) for a grade of C-
609 points (87%) for a grade of B+		469 points (67%) for a grade of D+
581 points (83%) for a grade of B		441 points (63%) for a grade of D
560 points (80%) for a grade of B-		420 points (60%) for a grade of D-

The actual point cutoffs for the course grades were

675 points for a grade of A+		515 points for a grade of C+
645 points for a grade of A		485 points for a grade of C
620 points for a grade of A-		460 points for a grade of C-
595 points for a grade of B+		435 points for a grade of D+
565 points for a grade of B		405 points for a grade of D
540 points for a grade of B-		380 points for a grade of D-

Final Exam Bonuses. Anyone with more than 399 points whose final exam grade is above the next highest course grade cutoff will be advanced over that cutoff.
Anyone with more than 399 points whose final exam grade is above the next 2n course grade cutoffs will be advanced over the next n cutoffs.
Anyone with more than 399 points whose final exam grade is above the next 2n + 1 course grade cutoffs will be advanced over the next n + 1 cutoffs.
The actual cutoffs for the final exam grades were

192 points for a grade of A+		142 points for a grade of C+
183 points for a grade of A		133 points for a grade of C
175 points for a grade of A-		125 points for a grade of C-
167 points for a grade of B+		117 points for a grade of D+
158 points for a grade of B		108 points for a grade of D
150 points for a grade of B-		99 points for a grade of D-

No student with more than 399 points will be given a course grade that differs from their final exam grade by more than two letter grades.
Almost all students will be given a course grade that is within one letter grade of their final exam grade.
Qualitative factors such as your class participation might also be taken into account when determining your course grade.

The course grade of I will be awarded only if all the following conditions are met:

You have completed all but a small portion of the required work.
You have an average grade of C- or better on the work completed.
You have a valid reason for not completing the course on time.
You agree to make up the material within a short period of time.
You request the incomplete no later than the day after the final exam.

Academic Integrity Policies

The University has a nationally recognized Code of Academic Integrity, administered by the Student Honor Council.
It is expected that all students will abide by this code during all assignments, quizzes, and examinations in this course.

The Student Honor Council proposed and the University Senate approved an Honor Pledge.
Each student will be asked to handwrite and sign the University of Maryland Honor Pledge on each examination.
This Pledge reads:
