  This classic has been used as the textbook for this course.

• Linear Algebra and Its Applications , Updated Third Edition, David C. Lay, Addison-Wesley, Reading MA, 2000.
  This is the Math 240/461 textbook. It has been used for this course by emphasising the later chapters.

• Matrices and Linear Transformations , Second Edition, Charles G. Cullen, Dover, New York NY, 1990.
  You might find this to be a good secondary reference matrix theory. It does not cover many applications.

• Linear Algebra and Its Applications , Second Edition, Peter D. Lax, John Wiley & Sons, Hoboken NJ, 2007.
  This remarkable book contains more useful facts about linear algebra than all of the others combined.

• Linear Algebra , Second Edition, Kenneth Hoffman and Ray Kunze, Prentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs NJ, 1971.
  This classic book takes a more abstract approach than we will. It has been the Math 405 textbook.

• Finite-Dimensional Vector Spaces , Second Edition, Paul R. Halmos Springer-Verlag, New York NY, 1987.
  This classic book takes an approach motivated by the theory of Hilbert spaces. It has been the Math 405 textbook.

• Linear Algebra , Fourth Edition, Stephen H. Friedberg, Arnold J. Insel, and Lawrence E. Spence, Pearson/Prentice Hall, Upper Saddle River NJ, 2003.
  This book takes a more abstract approach than we will.
