Experiment Materials for EDPI Study
This page contains the video vignettes, instrument, and lab protocol for the Evaluation of Doctor-Patient Interactions Study (EDPI). Feel free to contact longdoan (at) umd (dot) edu with questions.
Video Vignettes
There are 32 video vignettes for the 8 experimental conditions. Each participant views 2 videos within a race by gender condition. There are 2 actors for each racial-gender group. All manipulations are counterbalanced, so all actors record all combinations of videos within a race by gender condition. Therefore, there are 2 (emotional expressiveness) x 2 (versions of the script) x 8 (actors/racial-gender group) = 32 videos.
The filenames for these videos follow the following format: ds4_XXYvAB, where "ds4" is the stub for Dissertation Study 4. XX refers to the racial-gender group of the actor (e.g., bm = Black man, ww = white woman). Y = 1 or 2 for the actor number (2 actors per group). v stands for version. A = a or b for version A or version B script, respectively. B = e or n for expressive or neutral, respectively. The applicant ID that appears at the beginning are in the following format: ABBCCDDE, where A = e or n for expressive or neutral doctor, BB refers to the racial-gender group, CC is the filming date in June, 2015 (e.g., 22 means the video was filmed June, 22), DD is the filming hour (e.g., 08 is 8AM), and E is the script version number.
