Hi! This is me!

Email: ktolson1@terpmail.umd.edu

Hello! I am Kalyn Tolson, a freshman at the University of Maryland, majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice. I have a deep passion for law, particularly medical malpractice law, and aim to focus on healthcare policies that directly impact Black women, with a strong commitment to improving maternal health outcomes. I hold an associate degree in Health Information Management, which has given me a solid foundation in healthcare systems and policy. I am deeply invested in advocating for underrepresented communities and ensuring that Black women receive equitable care and legal representation in health-related matters.

I am actively involved in campus organizations, including the Black Student Union (BSU) and the Black Pre-Law Association, where she engages in discussions about social justice, law, and advocacy. As a member of the Science and Global Change cohort in College Park Scholars, I am committed to understanding the intersections of science, law, and policy in shaping the future. I strongly believe in using my voice and education to address systemic inequalities, particularly within the healthcare and legal systems.

Through my academic and extracurricular pursuits, I am driven by the goal of becoming a legal advocate who can make meaningful changes in healthcare policies, ensuring that Black women’s voices are heard and their health needs are prioritized. I am also passionate about raising awareness for maternal health disparities and working toward solutions that ensure better health outcomes for Black women.
