Grading

Your grade for the class will be a combination of your team and individual work, based on the following weighting:

Notes

(1) Because our goal is to help you master these skills, a passing grade on each quiz is required. You may repeat the quiz, if necessary; only your last (passing) grade will be recorded.

(2) Projects and reports will be graded on a team-by-team basis. The Preliminary Design and Final Report, and Presentations will be graded on the following criteria:

• Technical quality of written report (contents and appearance)
• Quality of oral presentations

(3) The Team Product grade will be obtained based on the following criteria:

• The amount of water pumped
• Accuracy of predicted performance
• Actual cost compared to predicted cost

If your product does not perform as expected, you can still obtain a good grade by making a clear analysis of the design's strengths and weaknesses.

(4) The Team Process grade will be obtained based on the following criteria:

• Quality of regular reports to ``management'' (instructors)
• Quality of group homework
• Group's effort in the team process

Your team effort won't be judged on whether or not you all become ``best friends,'' but on your demonstrated effort to work together productively: dealing with difficulties if they arise, seeking help when necessary, and learning from your mistakes and your successes as a team.

(5) The individual adjustment to the team grade will depend on your participation in the team effort. If the team is functioning well and everyone is contributing equally, no team member's grade will need to be adjusted. You will be asked to keep good group records and to rate each other's performance and participation throughout the project. If there are problems, the instructors will help to resolve them; we would much rather see your team learn to function well than to make adjustments for individuals at the end. The adjustment represents a plus or minus 10% deviation from the team grade.
