I am severely allergic to sesame seeds, and I am additionally allergic to tree nuts. I am happy with the FASTER Act of 2021, especially because it means that the UMD dining halls label sesame, and the purple zone is free from sesame as well as tree nuts. I am not happy with companies that have decided to add sesame seeds to their flour rather than try to clean their manufacturing facilities. As this is invisible but still can cause a fatal reaction, I now have to be very careful with any bread I eat, whereas before I could usually get by with checking the bread for sesame seeds. When I had pizza as part of the SGC movie night, the pizza restaurant did not label their allergens, so one of the peer mentors had to call the restaurant to confirm that the pizza wasn't going to kill me. As a result, if I find something I can eat, I'm not normally very picky. There are a few exceptions though. For example, my whole family is vegetarian, and I care deeply about rapid climate change, so as I have been vegetarian my whole life, I see no problem in continuing to be vegetarian and helping reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions along the way. Additionally, I do not like soda or drinks with a lot of extra sugar. I like milk, I like chocolate milk, I like green tea with milk, I like water, and I like soup, but other than that I generally don't like most drinks. I am willing to try other beverages, but most of them are "water with a tiny bit of flavor added on" or "water with copious amounts of sugar" which I dislike.
My Clubs and Interests
- Contributing to Endless Sky
- I found the open source video game Endless Sky, which I mildly enjoy playing. However, what I most enjoy about it is being able to find ways to improve the game through submitting issues and pull requests. This is a puzzle and it lets me learn new things. Additionally, I enjoy being able to help out a community and resolve conflicts, even if it's for something as trivial as a video game.
