I found the main points on climate change convincing, as Drake was able to provide data such as graphs, charts, and numerical data along with his lecture. The data provided helped me and the audience to visualize the impacts of climate change, and helped to prove that climate change has been occurring due to human activity. For example, Drake had an animated graph showing the temperature anomaly from the years 1750 to 2012. In this animated graph, one could visually see that the temperature anomaly has increased a significant amount, more than enough to be deemed as accurate. In conjunction with his data, Drake was also able to present images, giving us as the listener a visual representation of his lecture. These images helped his main points, as it helped us to see real life photos of the effects of global warming. For example, some of the images used show our ice caps melting, leaving surrounding fauna helpless. Other images showed visual representations of what causes climate change, such as the figure representing how albedo works against us in reducing global temperatures. This helped to show me the drastic effects of melting ice caps, as it showed that our consequences evolve at an exponential rate. Drake also provides plentiful information about this subject, and uses his time well, dipping into each effect of global warming with solid transitions. Drake was able to add a sense of urgency in his lecture when regarding natural disasters, providing data showing that as of right now, we are very underprepared to deal with the effects of global warming. In addition, his main points are convincing since Drake provides sources on most of the slides in the presentation, coming from popular sources such as NASA or other government sites. This year I actually have done a few papers regarding climate change, although mostly focused on the transportation emissions aspect of it. In these papers, I would research this topic thoroughly, and through my research, I found that his main points are valid and convincing, as his points correlated with sources that I had researched. A lot of the scholarly articles that I had read discussed the same points that Drake had, further proving the validity of his lecture. Also, his main points correlate with information that I have learned throughout college and high school, as climate change is a heavily discussed topic in these areas, with the same consensus. I did not observe any logical fallacies or other failures of critical thinking, since his points seemed backed up and well thought out with supporting evidence. Overall, the presentation was very well organized and thought out, and it helped to inform myself about the importance and significance of climate change.
