THE HOME PAGE FOR DAILY UPDATES!

Welcome to the University of Maryland Solarcar Race team home page. If this is your first time using the World Wide Web system you may want to find out more about the system by reading NCSA's Beginner's Guide to HTML or browsing around the Mosaic home page or perusing through PC Magazine's WWW server. Also, look into the Workstations at Maryland (WAM) homepage, the computer consulting lab homepage, and the InforM home page for information about the University of Maryland.

Way back in 1838 the first electric car was created. No one imagined that such cars might one day be driven by the power of the sun alone. Sunpower is the energy of the future and students and faculty here at the University of Maryland are on the exciting forefront of this developing technology!

Team Mission and Tradition

The solar car race team mission is based on cooperation and strategy in the development and education of the community about solar technology. In the past years the team has had excellent success in the major competitions. The history of Solarcar Team Maryland is enriched with tradition and pride, thus, the self proclaimed name of the second generation solar car, The Pride of Maryland II .

The Team

The team leader for the 1995 Solarcar Team Maryland is Mike Cooper and the faculty advisor for the project is Dr. David Holloway. The University of Maryland Solarcar Race Team itself consists of students from a wide range of majors and interests organized into specialized groups, each which is responsible for a particular area of expertise. Integration is the responsibility of the project and group leaders. These groups include:

Within these teams there are several different projects going on so check them out!

The Sponsors and Special Contributions

Of course, building a winning tradition at the University of Maryland is a very difficult and especially expensive endeavor. The Pride of Maryland II team is always looking for sponsors to donate equipment or money to our winning tradition. Information about our mission is available in our promotion packet.

The Competition

There are many universities and educational institutes in the world that are developing solar power technology just like Maryland. In head to head competition the Solarcar Team Maryland will match its wit and strategy with these teams to strive to be the best. Our competition from other universities is strong, but with terrapin tradition and our pride we shall forge victory in the future generations of the solarcar team
