Mary Ann Troup was born on 5 June 1872. She was the daughter of John Bruce Troup and Jane Black. Mary Ann Troup was also called "Pollie."

Mary Ann Troup appeared on the census of 1881 at Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England, in the household of her father.1

In February 1887 she was at school in Skelton, probably living with her aunt, Mary Jane (Troup) Kidd. She wrote a charming letter to her Aunt Agnes in Middlesbrough in which she mentioned the death of her uncle Charles Robert Troup.2

Mary Ann Troup married Ernest William Old.

Mary Ann Troup died on 14 August 1948 at age 76. She was buried in Saltburn Cemetery, Saltburn, Yorkshire, England.
