Edward James Maguire began military service in the U. S. Army in 1939.3 He became a field kitchen cook.3 He was a staff sergeant in the 543rd Egineer Boat and Shore Regiment, Third Engineer Special Brigade, which fought in the southwest Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart while serving in New Guinea.3

Edward James Maguire died on 20 September 1995 in Desert Hot Springs, Riverside County, California, at age 77.3
