Agnes Hartley Hair was born on 8 November 1838 at Barledziew, the parish of Sorbie, Wigtownshire, Scotland.2,3 She was the daughter of William Hair and Helen Dodds.1

Agnes Hartley Hair was baptized on 18 November 1838 at Barledziew, the parish of Whithorn, Wigtownshire, Scotland.2,3 Barledziew was a farm 2 km SSW of Sorbie village.2

Agnes Hartley Hair appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Millisle Cottage House, the parish of Sorbie, Wigtownshire, Scotland, in the household of her father.4

Agnes Hartley Hair appeared on the census of 31 March 1851 at Main Street, the parish of Whithorn, Wigtownshire, Scotland, in the household of her father.1

Agnes Hartley Hair presumably immigrated to America with her older sister Ellen in 1856. The name Agnes, age 17, spinster, appears below those of Samuel and Ellen Hanna on the passenger list of the sailing vessel William Stetson dated 15 May 1856.5

Agnes Hartley Hair married John Dimes about 1860.6 John and Agnes had met in the workers' dormitories on the Underhill brickyard property at Croton Landing, Westchester County, New York.7

Agnes Hartley Hair appeared on the census of 9 August 1860 at Cortlandt Township, Westchester County, New York, under the name Agnes Dimes.8

Agnes Hartley Hair appeared on the census of 16 August 1870 at Cortlandtown, Westchester County, New York, in the household of her husband.9

Agnes Hartley Hair appeared on the census of 16 June 1880 at Newburgh, Orange County, New York, in the household of her husband.10

Agnes Hartley Hair appeared on the census of 6 June 1900 at Newburgh, Orange County, New York, together with her husband.6

Agnes Hartley Hair died on 1 April 1921 at age 82.11 She was buried in Maple Grove Park Cemetery, Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey.11

Note: Her gravestone inscription gives her date of birth as 20 January 1841, but this must be incorrect: the Scottish old parish records give a birth date of 8 November 1838, consistent with her age shown in the 1841 and 1851 Scottish censuses, the 1856 passenger list, and the 1860 Federal census. Furthermore, her mother gave birth to her sister Jannet on 24 May 1841.
