Ralph Josselyn was born about 1556, probably at Chignal-Smealy, Essex.1 He was the son of John Josselyn and Alice Nevell.2

Ralph Josselyn resided at Roxwell, Essex.1

Ralph Josselyn married first Mary Bright on 21 May 1583 at Roxwell.1

Ralph Josselyn married secondly Dorothy Awecross, daughter of Peter Awecross, before 4 August 1626.3

There is no evidence to show which wife was the mother of each of his children.1

Ralph and his brother Simon purchased the family farm, Bollinghatch in Roxwell, and Simon later relinquished his share to Ralph and his heirs.4

Ralph Josselyn left a will dated 4 August 1626.5 This will was signed on 3 September 1628 and proved on 4 May 1632.6

Ralph Josselyn died in 1632.1 He was buried on 19 March 1631/32 in Roxwell.1

Ralph Josselyn's grandson Ralph Josselin (1617-1683), the eldest son of Ralph Josselyn's eldest son John, was vicar of Earls Colne in Essex from 1641 to his death. An interesting account has been written of his life and times, based on a diary he kept.7
