J. E. COX DIES VERY SUDDENLY OF APOPLEXY.
It was a great shock to the community to learn that Mr. J. Edward Cox died suddenly at his home on Manchester Terrace, on Wednesday, Feb. 9th. He was in his 55th year. The cause of death was apoplexy. He is survived by a widow and four brothers, George, Frank, Arthur and Delos, and two sisters.
Mr. Cox was one of Mt. Kisco's most able business men, having been in the shoe business in this village for about 37 years, and had the respect and esteem of all with whom he came into contact. He was making arrangements to retire from active work, and his brother, Arthur Cox, was to have taken the permanent management of the store.
On Tuesday evening when Mr. Cox left his store for his home at about six o'clock, he seemed in his usual good health and conversed cheerfully about the many changes he was making in his store. Shortly after nine o'clock, Mrs. Cox heard a peculiar noise in the bath room, where he had gone for a drink of water. She went to his assistance and directly saw that he was in a very serious condition. She summoned help, but Mr. Cox never rallied, dying a few hours later.
Much sympathy is felt for the widow who survives him. The funeral will be held from his late residence on Saturday at 1:30 p. m., and the interment will be in Kensico Cemetery.
Mrs. J. C. Mayne of Katonah, was a near relative of the deceased.
