Excerpts from the book:
TO THE PRESIDENT AND MEMBERS OF THE HISTORY RESEARCH
SOCIETY OF THE TAPPAN ZEE:
The committee appointed for the purpose of preserving the records of the old churchyard, has completed the work within the limits set by your instructions and submit herewith a map of the churchyard, on which the principal graves are located and numbered.
. . . Although the original object of the study was the preparation of the map and the record of the data upon the stones; as the work progressed, the task of collecting widely scattered and ofter conflicting data, suggested the propriety of expanding the bare record to include as far as possible, family relationships and pertinent biographical data.
. . . The forebears of the community were simple, pious folk content to baptize their progeny with old fashioned names drawn from the good book. As a consequence such names as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rachel and the like appear with confusing frequency with the same family name and the committee offers this fact as an apology for whatever errors may be discovered in the following pages.
