JAMES C. MAYNE DIED TUESDAY

Prominent Katonah Citizen Will be Missed and Mourned By Wide Circle of
Friends.

James C. Mayne, for twenty-seven years a resident of the village of Katonah, died at his home in this village on Tuesday morning of this week.

Mr. Mayne was born in Connecticut, seventy-four years ago, the 6th of next February. When eighteen years of age, he enlisted in the 17th Regiment, Conn. State Volunteers and served his country as a soldier till the close of the war. During that time he received three promotions, Corporal, Sergeant and second Lieutenant. He was in some of the greatest battles of the rebellion including Gettysburg and Chancelorville and was stationed at Fort Marion, Fla., when the war closed. On March 30, 1870, Mr. Mayne married Miss Josephine Burnett, who survives him.

Thirty-five years ago Mr. Mayne moved to Mount Kisco and eighteen years later he moved to Katonah where he has since resided.

During all the years of his residence here he has represented the strongest and most lovable manhood, and he has had during those years the respect and friendship and love of all who knew him.

A good citizen, an upright member of the community, a devout and faithful Christian, a strong and manly man with a kind and generous heart, Mr. Mayne will be greatly missed in the life of the village and he will be long remembered by those who knew and appreciated his worth.

His wife and son, Harry Z. Mayne, a brother and two sisters are the loved ones who remain and all the community joins with them in their sorrow over the loss of their beloved.
