motivation. In C. Sansone & J. M. Harackiewicz (Eds.), Intrinsic Motivation:

Controversies and New Directions. CA: Academic Press.

In this chapter, the authors present a new model that attempts to identify two distinct definitions of "intrinsic" motivation, one substantive and one structural. The structural definition is based on the degree to which a given activity is associated with unique or common goals in an individual's goal network. The authors then discuss the implications of this redefinition for the interpretation of the classic findings as well as present new data based on this redefinition.
