Executive Summary of NNFR

The National Network for Family Resiliency (NNFR) is an interactive network which provides leadership for acquisition, development, and analysis of resources that foster family resiliency. Family resiliency is defined as "the family's ability to cultivate strengths to positively meet the challenges of life." The NNFR brings together educators, researchers, agency personnel, families, advocates for families, and practitioners who share interest in strengthening families that face multiple risks to their resiliency.

Collaborators from ES-USDA and 41 Land Grant Universities share leadership for maximizing expertise, bringing research to bear on significant family issues, and guiding research based on evaluation of programs and practices. The network provides access to Family Resiliency resources through multiple avenues -- including electronic media, training and education, and and community development.

The organizational structure of the Network is based on shared leadership via a coordinating committee from eight universities which facilitates and maintains communication with representatives of all participating universities. There are six PODs (working groups dedicated to network functions -- not an acronym), and four Special Interest Groups (SIGs). More SIGs will be formed as program focus areas are determined on an on-going basis. The University of Missouri is responsible for fiscal management and convening the Coordinating Committee during the first two years of the network.
