Daniel Marshall's "Freshman Time Capsule Essay"

The course that surprised me the most was probably my communication class COMM107.The way I discovered it was by looking at the elective requirements to graduate, and pursuing classes that gave those requirements. The way I would advise going about pursuing that experience is by finding classes that fit both your requirements and interests. My greatest success in developing success with faculty was with the CMSE bridge faculty, since I was a part of the bridge program prior to the fall semester. The greatest obstacle in pursuing such relationships at least for me was time. A lot of my classes required a lot of time commitment and fostering such relationships was hard to do when other obligations took precedent. You should pursue such relationships through asking for help for coursework or looking for internships or research opportunities. My relationships with fellow students enabled me to cope with the adjustment of going to the university by having people going through similar experiences to talk to while studying for exams and things of that nature. Once again the greatest obstacle in pursuing these relationships is time, but as long as you budget your time accordingly it is possible. The best way to make use of the connections with your peers is to study and plan with them, since working together makes tasks in general easier. The aspect of university life that I was most unprepared for was having to deal with sharing bathrooms with the rest of the floor. Make sure you know the bathroom situation if you have on campus housing.
