Hello! My name is Daniel, I'm from Bethesda, Maryland, and I love learning about our world and the place that it inhabits in the universe, which is why I'm majoring in both astronomy and physics at UMD. I joined the Science and Global Change scholars program because human activities are damaging the health of the global environment in a variety of ways, and making it harder to enjoy the natural beauty of the world we live in. In particular, as an astronomy student, I am concerned about light pollution and how it has diminished our ability to view the night sky, both for astronomers and everyone else, as well as how it has negatively impacted the behaviors of animals who rely on light for navigation and timekeeping. I intend to do whatever I can as an aspiring scientist to shine a light on the issues caused by climate change, and help invent new ways of undoing the damage we have done to our Earth as a species.
