Hi! My name is Christian Sun and I'm a 20-year-old sophomore here at the University of Maryland. I am a Kinesiology major on the pre-med track. I began my college career as an Undecided Engineering major as I was accepted straight into the Clark School for Engineering from high school. Over the summer between my senior year of high school and my first semester in college, I had a change of heart however. I should say I had an epiphany rather than a change of heart. I say this because I only declared "Undecided Engineering" as my major coming in because I was good at math, I was good at science, and I thought maybe I would like to build things as my job. I never even looked into what engineers really did and all the types there were. I didn't really want to become an engineer. It just sounded cool to me if I could say when I was an adult, "Yea I'm an ENGINEER!!" I switched over to a less math based major in Kinesiology as I realized that I was just good at math. I didn't actually find it interesting or enjoy doing it, so I didn't want to put myself through higher level if I didn't need to. In my science classes I learned that whenever we talk about the intricacies of the body and its systems, I was always more engaged. My interest in learning how things affects our body was furthered when I began working in the Vascular Kinetics Lab for research. I plan on continuing research and am currently looking for hospitals over private practices for clinical hours in order to give myself more exposure and experience in healthcare.
