I'm the assistant director of Earth, Life & Time
I'm also a psychology graduate student here at the University of Maryland
Research Interests: I'm very interested in brain/behavior relationships, such as the effect of endogenous neurochemicals on everyday functioning, as well as their role in pathological behaviors. I'm also interested in the evolutionary adaptation of human behavior and brain function.
Research/Teaching Experience: I did an honors project in conjunction with the University of Colorado's center on aging, as an undergraduate. I went out into the field to gather information for a database on Colorado Springs' elderly population. I worked as a research assistant at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, on a project that looked at the effects of certain drugs on the sleep/wake response. I worked as a research assistant at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences for a study funded by the National Institute of Health, which investigated the effects of amphetamines on the brain's registration of novel stimuli. I've been a teaching assistant for psychology 100 courses for about two years.
Personal Interests: I love to travel! To experience the sight, sound and feel of a place totally different from anything I know is a great thrill for me. I've been to Paris, Amsterdam, Belgium, Germany, the Galapagos Islands, Quito-Ecuador, and various states in the USA, including Hawaii. My dream is to cover all seven continents. I also love to read. However, grad school has virtually put a halt to any recreational reading. When I do get the chance to read, I'm drawn to any novel where the author is able to give you a vivid picture of another world.
Brief History: At this point you may be wondering what in the world
I'm doing here. Well, after having raised a family and followed my husband
around with the Air Force, I decided to give in to my mid-life crisis and
pursue my graduate degree. I was working part time in the College Park
Scholars main office, but they needed the position I held to become
full time. Having learned from the hard way that going to grad school and
working full time is an experience to be avoided, I was in need of another
job. As luck would have it, the newly formed ELT program was in need of a
part time administrative assistant director, and my association with
doctors Holtz and Merck began.
