The nature of the CPSG scholars program for my freshman year was a class that I attended. The structure of this class is that every single Tuesday the scholars program takes an hour and a half out of our lives to lecture about geology and the history of the earth. There are a lot of assignments that are due during class time as normally we are working on a worksheet and once every other two weeks or so we are given a massive project to complete or a paper to write. The amount of work for this class is similar to my COMM 107 class and my English class which is very interesting as this class is only a one credit course yet requires so much work and effort. In class, we covered several interesting topics that I did not expect for us to cover as I did not think we would cover those exact specific topics that we covered in class. I did not expect for a class on Global Change to talk so much about the past of the Earth such as the 5 major extinction events that occurred in the Earth’s history. I expected us to explore different parts of energy and how these energy sources work more like an environmental science class rather than a geology class. However, the out of classroom activities were phenomenal and were probably the most fun I have had on campus to date. The trip to New York was especially fun as I was able to enjoy NYC for the first time with my friends. My life as a university student so far has been quite an experience compared to my high school experience. This is my first time away from my parents for an extended period of time and I am loving it. At home, I have an 11 pm Wifi restriction time which is really stupid as I like staying up late with my friends and making my ownd decisions. Now that I am in college however, I can finally stay up late and now have a lot more freedom than what I used to have. Advice that I have for future SGC students include working diligently and hard and signing up for the New York trip in November as it was my favorite part of academics. I also advice for those future SGC students that they should take notes during the lectures in order to do well on the quizzes.
