SGC is why I have chosen to pick up the Sustainability Studies minor and why I’m choosing to make my Mechanical Engineering technical electives focused on sustainability and the environment. I was mainly influenced by the first semester material where we learned how important it is to take action as soon as possible and that everyone needs to do something. Now I am choosing to use my skills in engineering to try to do my part.
In AGNR301: Introduction to Sustainability, I learned that individual behavioral changes are not enough to make the world sustainable. Instead people need to work together and force large institutions to change. This lines up with the idea that one person can’t do everything to solve the climate crisis but everyone needs to do what they can.
