Due: 9am, February 27, 2008.
The purpose of this assignment is to become familiar with the hypertext markup language (html) and step-by-step procedures for creating and editing files. Hence, I want you to create the web page by hand using the text editor.
If you don't already have a home page, create a file called welcome.html inside the ../pub i.e.,
>> cd ../pub >> vi Welcome.html
and type in the minimal HTML Document on pages 27-28 of the class reader (it's part of the tutorial "A Beginners Guide to HTML").
Add a picture of yourself to the home page -- you can use the one on the "meet the class" page if you want.
Goto the ENCE 200 "Meet the Class" page, and check that it is correctly linked to your home page. Please let me know if the link doesn't work.
Create an online version of your resume in a file called resume.html. Create a link from "Welcome.html" to "resume.html"
Many of the most impressive large-scale engineering systems on Earth today are due to the work of Civil Engineers.
Develop a web page containing links to seven Civil Engineering Wonders of the World. Applications may be drawn from any area of Civil Engineering -- the only criteria are:
For each application state when the wonder was created and a sentence or two stating why you think it qualifies. Add links to sites (e.g., other web sites; YouTube video) documenting the wonder. Use Google Maps to show the geographical location of your wonders.
Note. The wikipedia entry for American Society of Civil Engineers contains suggestions. The Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Roman Aqueducts, Stonehenge, the Panama Canal, Golden Gate Bridge, English Channel Tunnel, Eiffel Tower, Hoover Dam ...etc.. are a few candidates.
The grader will visit your site and grade the homework soon after the due date.
