Homework Assignment 1

Due: 9am, February 24, 2006.

Problem 1

If you don't already have a home page, create a file called Welcome.html inside the ../pub i.e.,

    >> cd ../pub
    >> vi Welcome.html

and type in and test a minimal HTML document (see page 27 in the Yellow reader).

Goto the ENCE 200 "meet the class" page, and check that it is correctly linked to your home page. Please let us know if the link doesn't work.

Put a picture of yourself on the your home page.

Create a link from your home page to a second web page containing your resume. Use the <table> tags in HTML to create a nicely formatted resume displaying your accomplishments in life to date. Note. I suggest that you simply copy another resume and edit the details -- I will explain how to do this in class.

Problem 2

Let's suppose that your entire family has decided to visit Alaska for a two week vacation. Develop a web page that contains an image of downtown Fairbanks and links to:

Tourist Offices in Alaska.
Links to the home pages of three airlines that fly to Fairbanks.
A page containing a streetmap of downtown Fairbanks.
A page containing information of hotel accomodations in Fairbanks.
A page containing information on restaurants in the Fairbanks area.
Three pages for tourist attractions in the Fairbanks area.
Three major tourist attractions in Alaska, but not necessarily close to Fairbanks.
Information of "dog sledding" adventures in Alaska.

The grader will visit your site and grade the homework soon after the due date.
