SUMMARY

The goal of this project was to isolate an organism of interest usingan enrichment culture. Our organism of interest was Lactobacillus. After obtaining a sample of plain Yoplait yogurt, known for containing activecultures of L. Acidophilus, it was plated and various tests were runon the bacteria that did grow in order to determine if they were indeed Lactobacilli . Results of every test conducted coincided with Lactobacillus characteristics. Isolating Lactobacilli in the laboratory, suchas in this project, is very crucial industrially. Lactobacilli areresponsible for the preservation of many foods and are used to produce manyfood items such as yogurt. Lactobacilli are also very beneficialto human health and help to prevent infections.
