Directions for Using the Thumbnail index template with 2 pictures sound. This template is similar to the Class project template with sound and pictoral thumbnail index, except that it displays two pictures on each content page (for example, you could have the first picture be of artwork created by a student and the second a photo of the student, or whatever two pictures you want). 1. Copy this folder to your hard drive. Double-click on the copy of the folder. Select "Select All" from the Edit menu. Right-click on any one of the files and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu.Click on the "Read-only" box so that it is not checked and click OK. Note: To add more pages to the site, simply go to the last page, select Edit with Notepad, and INCREASE EACH NUMBER ON THE PAGE BY 1 (for example, change 30 to 31, 29 to 30, 31 to 32, etc). Save the page with a filename that is one higher, e.g. if it was "page30.htm", save it as "page31.htm". Repeat for as many pages as you need. 2. Copy the graphic files (in jpg format) into the same folder. 3. Rename the first picture on each page "p1.jpg", "p2.jpg", "p3.jpg", etc, in the order that they are to appear in the slide show. Name the second picture on each page "p1a.jpg", "p2a.jpg", "p3a.jpg", etc, in the order that they are to appear in the slide show. (If the graphics are not in JPG format, either use a graphics editor to change their format into JPG or change the graphic links on each html file to reflect the actual format of the graphics). 4. Use your image editor program (or the "Batch Thumbs" program on the workshop CD-ROM) to create thumbnail images for each picture (roughly 100 X 70 pixels in size). Name the thumbnails as "T1.jpg", "T2.jpg", "T3.jpg", etc. 5. Edit the index page, "index.htm" in a text editor such as NotePad or SimpleText. Replace the placeholder " Main title " and " Sub-title " with your titles. In the body of the index, replace each placeholder "TITLE" with your own page titles. Save it. 6. Open each of the numbered pages (e.g. page1.htm, page2.htm, etc) in a text editor such as NotePad or SimpleText. Replace the upper-case placeholder text with the title, sub-title, and mail text for each page. Save it. Repeat for each page. 7. Attach a microphone to the microphone input on the back of the computer (marked with a microphone symbol). 8. Open the Windows sound recorder in Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> Entertainment --> Sound Recorder 9. Click on the round red button to begin recording. Click on the black square button to stop. 10. Select File --> Save to save the sound for each page "s1.wav", "s2.wav", "s3.wav", etc., to match the pages numbers. Save the sound files in the same folder as the other files. 11. Select File --> New to clear the old sound and repeat steps 9 and 10 for each page that has a sound. 12. To view the site, open "title.htm" in a Web browser. Click on "Index of Pages" to go to the index. Note: If you are using downloaded sound files rather than recording your own sounds, open the corresponding slide file and change the name of the sound file (where it says in the HTML text for that page, so the sound controller won't show on that page.
