Dragonfly

A young dragonfly is called a nymph. It begins life in the water. It feeds on tiny fish and insects. It can live in the water for up to five years. A nymph does not fly. It breathes through gills. It sheds its skin as it grows. An adult dragonfly has four large, fragile wings. It has six legs. It can perch, but it can't walk. It uses its legs to make a basket to catch bugs in the air. it can fly 50 to 60 miles per hour. It buzzes by flapping its wings up to 1,600 times a minute. A dragonfly is helpful to people because it eats mosquitoes. It lives near the water. It eats thousands of mosquitoes.
