William Paca was born October 31, 1740, in Wye Hall,
Maryland. That is in Queen Annes County. William Paca
was famous because he was one of four Marylanders to sign
the Declaration of Independence. He made sure that the
Declaration included a Bill of Rights to protect individual freedoms.
William Paca was a Governor of Maryland from 1782 to 1784.
He gave his time and money to help outfit the American Troops.
He studied law and became a lawyer. He helped found Washington
College in Chestertown, Maryland. He married Mary Chew and after
her death he married Anne Harrison.
William Paca died in 1799. He was buried in Wye Hall,
in Queen Anne's County.
