| To symbolically designate the 100 block of F Street, S.E., as Capitalsaurus Court (Ward 6); and to amend the Official Dinosaur Act of 1998 to correct a typographical error. |
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this act may be cited as the "Designation of Capitalsaurus Court and Technical Correction Amendment Act of 1999." |
| Sec. 2. (a) In January 1898, a dinosaur vertebra bone was discovered at what is now the 100 block of F Street, S.E., in the District of Columbia by workmen during a sewer connection project, and is the only known specimen of its kind in the world. This bone was the first evidence of the existence of dinosaurs in the District of Columbia. |
| (b) About 110 million years ago, the Capitalsaurus lived in the District of Columbia with many other dinosaurs, including herbivores. The Capitalsaurus was a large meat eating reptile which may have been an ancestor of T. (Tyrannosaurus) rex. |
| (c) On January 28, 1898, Mr. J.K. Murphy gave the dinosaur's vertebra bone to the Smithsonian Institution and it was recorded as accession number 33153 and specimen number NMNA 3049. |
| (d) Section 2 of the Official Dinosaur Act of 1998, effective September 30, 1998 (D.C. Law 12-155; D.C. Code § 1-131), designated the Capitalsaurus as the official dinosaur of the District of Columbia. |
Sec. 3. In order to memorialize the site where evidence was found that dinosaurs roamed the Nation's Capital, and pursuant to section 403a of the Street and Alley Closing and Acquisition Procedures Act of 1982, effective April 9, 1997 (D.C. Law 1 l-236; D.C. Code § 7- 453.1), the Council of the District of Columbia symbolically designates the 100 block of F Street, S.E., as "Capitalsaurus Court". |
Sec. 4. Section 2(g) of the Official Dinosaur Act of 1998, effective September 30, 1998 (D.C. Law 12-155; D.C. Code § 1-131(g)), is amended by striking the phrase "specimen NMNH 3409" and inserting the phrase "specimen NMNH 3049" in its place. |

Sec. 6. This act shall take effect following approval by the Mayor (or in the event of veto by the Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), approval by the Financial Responsibility and Management Assistance Authority as provided in section 203(a) of the District of Columbia Financial Responsibility and Management Assistance Act of 1995, approved April 17, 1995 (109 Stat. 116; D.C. Code § 47-392.3(a)), a 30-day period of Congressional review as provided in section 602(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Code § 1-233(c)(l)), and publication in the District of Columbia Register. |
