2008 KSEA National Mathematics Competition (NMC 2008)

The Korean-American Scientist and Engineers Association (KSEA, www.ksea.org) is pleased to announce that the 6th National Mathematics Competition (NMC) will be held on April 19, 2008. The KSEA NMC is open to the 4th-11th grade students with Korean heritage. The goal of the NMC is to promote their interest in mathematics and careers in the fields of science and engineering.

Time: from 1 PM to 4 PM,

Location: Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC),

Annandale Campus, Annandale McDiarmid Building (CM Building)

On-line Registration will be closed on April 5, 2008!

All students are recommended to PRE-REGISTER for the competition.

There will be on-site registration on the competition day. 

However, the on-site fee is $30 and no T-shirt will be provided.

 

A parent or student's email address is REQUIRED so that the confirmation of registration can be sent electronically.

Direction

From the beltway, exit WEST onto Little River Turnpike (Route 236).  After 1 mile, turn LEFT onto Wakefield Chapel Road, then enter the large parking lot at Northern Virginia Community College on your left.

Parking

There is no free parking on the Annandale Campus. All visitors may park at the Annandale Parking Garage. The cost is $1.00 per hour (or any portion of an hour). - CASH ONLY - entrance to Pay Parking is via machine issued ticket, push button, take ticket, gate opens – pay booth operator upon exit). Exam Style

The competition is in the form of a written examination.

Award

There will be awards from the KSEA DC-Metro Chapter, The Korea Times, and the KSEA HQ.  The KSEA HQ will announce recipients of the national level awards in approximately ten days after the competition. The KSEA HQ will present three awards for each grade. Each award will carry a cash prize of modest amount.

Grade: 4th ~ 11th

1st place: $400, 2nd place: $250, 3rd place: $150

Note: Each winner will be given the cash prize described above along with a certificate from the KSEA headquarters.
