Indian Princess Mary
Princess Mary was the daughter of a
Pascataway Indian chief. Her father planned
for her to one day be queen of her village.
Soon after the first English settlers arrived in
Maryland, the people in her village became friends
with the English priest, Father White. As the
Indians learned the ways of the white man, the
Indian chief wanted his daughter to be educated.
Father White arranged for her to be tutored with
Margaret Brentís youngest brother, Giles. Years
later, when both children were young adults,
they were married.
