Glyndon, Maryland, January 5, 2001
First Period
Show and Tell (Demonstration):
A general presentation on what
can be done to integrate technology into the curriculum. Many
examples of student-created multimedia projects will be shown.
The presenter will give information on how these projects were
completed and how they can be adapted to many subject areas.
Searching (Hands-on session):
How to locate and evaulate
curriculum-related material on the World Wide Web, such as
lesson plans, interactive activities, graphics, and more.
How to prepare WWW pages of "hot links" for your students
to use.
Second Period
Science (Hands-on session):
Several examples of science-
related activities based on freeware and shareware and on
free WWW sites. Emphasis will be on creative, discovery-type
activities.
Kid Pix (Hands-on session):
The presenter will model a teacher-
directed computer lesson on using Kid Pix. Students (2nd or 3rd
graders) and teachers will go through one of the many lessons that
can be presented using this software. This approach empowers the
user when working with the program in the future. The lesson
also covers many other skills that can be transfered to other
subject areas.
Third Period
Math (Hands-on session):
Several examples of math-
related activities based on freeware and shareware and on
free WWW sites. Emphasis will be on creative, discovery-type
activities.
TeacherWeb (Hands-on session):
The presenter will help teachers
get started in making their own web page that can be accessed and
updated at any time from any computer that is connected to the
Internet. The web site we will use in called Teacher Web. It
allows the teacher to create a series of pages on announcements,
homework, FAQ, about the teacher, a calendar and links. This
user friendly web site can be mastered very quickly. This is a
very good way of sharing information with students and parents
since they can access the teacher page from their home computer.
This empowers the teacher since they have complete control of the
site and can update, add or delete any information at any time.
5th - 6th Periods
Digital Imaging Workshop (Hands-on workshop):
How to use a digital camera and
scanner to capture images of student products, field trips,
and classroom activities; use image editor software to
improve and correct images; import images into word processor
and other presentation software; prepare graphics for Web pages;
obtain high-quality color printouts for display.
7th - 8th Periods
Creating a Student Project Web Site using a Template (Hands-on workshop):
In this workshop you will use templates and simple text editing
to create multimedia projects for publication on the Web. Using
templates rather than a Web editor program requires no specialized
commercial software, speeds up project construction, and helps to
focus student attention on the content of a project rather than
the format design aspects. We will demonstrate templates for
class projects, individual student projects, and templates for
converting KidPix slide shows to Web format.
