Academic Status

The 2007-2008 academic year is my fifth and final year as a Ph. D. student in the Decision and Information Technologies department of the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park. I am an Information Systems major with a minor in Social Psychology.

I have formally accepted a tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor at Temple University beginning in Fall, 2008. I will be joining the Department of Management Information Systems in the Fox School of Business and Management. I am very excited about joining Temple/Fox and about moving this summer to Philly.

Research Interests and Intellectual Heritage

My primary research interest is virtual groups. My dissertation is on the impact of leadership on continued participation in online groups. My broader area of research work is knowledge management, social media and large-scale social networks. I am also interested in the impact of IT on organizations and industries.

Samer FarajLee SproullJames March

I am proud of my intellectual heritage. My primary academic advisor and a co-chair of dissertation committee is Samer Faraj. The chair of his dissertation committee was Lee Sproull. The chair of her committee was James March. I'll be thrilled if I can achieve a fraction of the success of these influential researchers!

Service

I currently serve as an At-Large Doctoral Student representative on the OCIS Division Executive Committee of the Academy of Management. If you are a graduate student interested in organizational communications and information systems, come join the discussion at our recently renovated student networking site: http://ocis.wordpress.com/.

At Smith School, I served for two years as the Vice President, External Affairs for the Association of Doctoral Students. My primary duty was newsletter editor. I edited the Spring 2006, Fall 2005, Spring 2005 and Fall 2004 issues.
