Title of Project: In Front and Behind the Scenes at the Delaware Natural History Museum

Description of Project: The project was completed over winter break at the Delaware Natural History Museum, where Katherine volunteered at the museum by helping run exhibits, helping in the collection division, and helping match-up bones.

What were the main benefits you received from doing the project?: Katherine got to see how the entire museum works, and she received a behind-the-scenes glance at the museum that she would have not received otherwise.

What were the main pitfalls or obstacles during the development and/or undertaking of the project?: For Katherine, it was hard to work with dead birds at times, she also had to be thorough, and volunteering got boring for her at times.

Title of Project: A Day in the Life of a Vascular Surgeon

Description of Project: Timothy shadowed Dr. Cabellon and observed various procedures. They included arteriograms, amputations, aneurysm repair, bypass surgery, and angioplasty.

What were the main benefits you received from doing the project?: Timothy got to see how the hospital works. Such as, the interaction that takes place among physicians, nurses, and physician assistants daily.

What were the main pitfalls or obstacles during the development and/or undertaking of the project?: Timothy saw that there was an emotional toll for the doctor; the doctor lost people who he knew on a personal level.

Title of Project: Animal Care: Human & Non-human Interaction

Description of Project: Gregory volunteered at the zoo, sat in on meetings among zookeepers, fed animals, and observed animals.

What were the main benefits you received from doing the project?: Gregory got to have a behind the scenes look at how the animals live through his volunteering.

What were the main pitfalls or obstacles during the development and/or undertaking of the project?: The necessary environmental issues or other type of issues were not always addressed, which could be frustrating.
