Meeting site

The workshop will be held at the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics (formerly known as the "Institute for Plasma Research"), University of Maryland, College Park. The specific location of the meeting will be Room #1207 on the second floor of the Energy Research Building (Bldg #223, Paint Branch Dr.). Its location can found on the UMD campus map at http://www.inform.umd.edu/CampusInfo/About_UMCP/Maps/ by clicking on the NE quadrant. The meeting room will have facilities for projection using viewgraphs and computer.

Hotels and ground transportation

There are plenty of affordable hotels close to the UMD campus. At least two of them, the Quality Inn (phone: 301-864-5820) and the Best Western Maryland Inn (301-474-2800) offer University discounts. You need to mention that you are attending a workshop at the University of Maryland when you call to reserve your room. The Quality Inn is located particularly well being close to both the Energy Research Building and the College Park metro station. More information about local hotels can be found at http://www.inform.umd.edu/CampusInfo/Departments/guest/visitor/localhotel.html.

How to get College Park from the airport? We have three airports with different transportation options. The farthest one is Dulles. Then you may take the Washington Flyer Coach Service ( http://www.washfly.com/ ) to West Falls Church metro station and go to College Park metro station. Some hotels (particularly Quality Inn) are within walking distance from the metro station. The second airport is National. Then you land in the center of DC and take the advantage of no shuttle bus and twice shorter metro line. The third airport, BWI has no direct metro or shuttle bus access to College Park. However, taking taxi to College Park is quite affordable. Most College Park hotels, particularly the ones located on Baltimore Blvd. are within walking distance from the the Energy Research Building. You may find the details using the local map http://www.mapquest.com and the campus map mentioned above.

Restaurants

A list of local restaurants can be found here. Most of them require some driving. Other lunch and/or dinner places close to the meeting site can be found on this combined map of northeast and northwest quadrants.

Parking

All parking in the campus is either designated or metered. We recommend that you park in front of the Energy Research Building at the Paint Branch Drive Cashier Attended Area (see the northeast quadrant map).
