Recreational - cultural - self improvement
September 13, 2007
On Sept. 13, I went to my first Maryland football game. Maryland played against West Virginia. I missed the first game of the season, however, I am glad that I was able to go to this particular game because it was a "black-out" meaning all Maryland students wore black. Games are known to be spirited but this particular game was special as it brought the whole school together in black. We were united. Even though we lost, it was a great game as I fun with my friends and I bonded with my floor-mates.
Citizenship

In October I registered to vote. It was important for me to do so, as I feel it is one responsibility that I take on with full desire. With so many challenges facing our country today and with the upcoming 2008 presidential election, I believe the first step in tackling the problems is by voting for the right people in Washington.

On October 17, I went to a talk sponsored by Campus Sustainability titled "Ethanol as an Alternative Energy Source in the U.S. Policy: Boon or Boondoggle?". The speaker gave a brief overview on the current energy challenges, particulary the U.S. dependence on foriegn oil. He then introduced ethanol and its pros and cons. Although the speaker was very dull and dry, I became very informed about the energy crisis and its play on politics and the economy.

North American Indian Cello Project
On November 6, 2007 I went to see the North American Indian Cello Project. This was one women solo cello performance and it was a interesting experience. The music was a blend of both Native American and European sounds. She also accompanied the cello with a little singing in a Native American language. This was a unique oppurtunity as I was able to learn about another culture through its music.
