LBSC 708l Fall 1997 Term Project:
Picture Catalog for Biological Specimens

Team members: Jack Scott, Jennifer Ward, Cynthia Zujko-Miller

Project description:  We took an existing image database system and developed a graphical user interface that allows users to search the database and display the results in various ways.  Both the database and interface were developed in Java 1.1.  The team employed a rapid prototyping methodology and created three iterations of the interface over a six-week period.  The picture catalog is to be used by biologists attempting to identify specimens.  The database can be searched by characteristics of the specimen and the retrieved pictures can be compared to the specimen.  More detailed information on  useage scenarios is available.
