Head down, her hair obscures pale skin blushed pink from the cold and warm to the touch from the exertion of a vain attempt to arrive at class in time. From where I sit, I can see her mouth opened slightly and her breathing faster than normal as though she floats in post-orgasmic rapture. She searches for a seat, managing not to make eye contact until sliding into the empty desk next to me. I meet her eyes out of habit. She stares back for a moment, glassy eyes betraying no thought, before giving a polite smile that says hello there but keeps the comfortable distance between strangers. |
