POSITION AVAILABLE: RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Vacancy available for full-time research assistant/lab manager for neurophysiology research laboratory. The research group investigates the neurobiology of hearing on the University of Maryland, College Park campus.

Department/College: Dept of Biology, College of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences
Starting Salary: commensurate with experience, plus standard University of Maryland health and retirement benefits.
Duties: Performs general laboratory support, including preparation of chemical solutions, ordering supplies and equipment, microscopy and histology work, tissue preparation, administrative support as needed. Conducts research experiments and contributes to data analysis and organizational tasks. Helps train and supervise undergraduate assistants. Opportunities for independent research commensurate with background and skills.
Qualifications: BA/BS in biology or related science and at least 1 year full time experience with bench research in wet biology/physiology (alternatively, a MA/MS in neuroscience related field with bench experience). Excellent organizational skills, ability to multitask, dependability, time management and basic computer skills, and good interpersonal skills required. Ideal candidate will have laboratory skills in several of the following areas: acute brain slice or fixed tissue processing; immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridization; bright-field and epifluorescence conventional microscopy; confocal microscopy; animal handling (avian, rodent). Other desirable qualifications/skills include: recombinant DNA/cloning; DNA, RNA, and/or protein blotting; transgenic mouse husbandry/breeding; experience with patch clamp or other types of electrophysiology; ability to program in MATLAB or other technical skills; knowledge of compliance issues such as animal protocols, etc.
