“Tet Trung Thu and Moon Cake Madness”

“Over the moon: kids have their cake and eat it too.” Viet Nam News. (Sept. 2004). 14 Feb. 2005 <http://vietnamnews.vnagency.com.vn/2004-09/25/Stories/26.htm>.

The Mid-Autumn festival is one of two days dedicated to children. Children enjoy a special day filled with events like games, parties, and parades, aside from the goodies they receive from their parents. Mooncakes are one goody that parents never forget. These Vietnamese mooncakes come in two types: a crispy baked crust and a soft crust. Traditional cakes are usually fatty, but today bakers are creating cholesterol free mooncakes. Some bakers have even added whiskey, cheese, ham, chicken, and sea food to present their own special taste. Nonetheless, mooncakes are still widely enjoyed during this festival. Besides being edible, mooncakes have taken part in the entertainment world as well. Mooncakes have been packaged as games as the people are “seek[ing] entertainment.”
